Skill-specific · Active listening
Summary
The hardest format on the active-listening ladder: hear the monologue once, then speak what mattered - no options to hide behind.
Hear once. Then speak.
Unlike the selection modes on this ladder, Summary removes the scaffold. You produce a spoken summary under honest conditions - one take after a single hearing.
Selection modes
Multiple choice / pick from options
Fact Recall, Meaning Check, Key Points, Reflect Back, and Spot the Miss keep composition load low by offering answers to choose.
Summary
Full spoken production
Integrate what you held into language the buyer would recognise. Nowhere to hide behind a menu of answers.
Harder format. Narrow job.
This is not a core-ladder sales conversation. The only job is to prove the buyer was heard.
In this mode
Spoken summary after one hearing
Facts, meaning, priority, and fidelity meet in one response you produce yourself.
Asked here
- Hear the monologue once
- Speak a full summary aloud
- Integrate what mattered into your own words
Not asked here
- Advance a pitch
- Handle an objection
- Close or qualify the deal
Why the jump in difficulty
Selection modes prove each facet in isolation. Summary is where those facets must survive together under speech - the measurement format for the listening foundation, before that foundation is asked to carry discovery, bridge, or close.
Listening ladder complete.
Discovery Timing is a different mechanic entirely: one decision, no speech - when to stop digging.
